AN ORDINANCE AMENDING PRIOR ORDINANCES REGARDING THE APPOINTMENT OF CERTAIN OFFICERS IN THE CITY OF SATANTA, KANSAS.

WHEREAS, The City adopted charter ordinance 7 which changes the commencement date of holding office for the mayor and council members to the second Monday in January; and

WHEREAS, KSA 15-204 states that the City may appoint certain officials in May of each year and Satanta Ordinance directs the appointment to be made in May of every year.

THEREFORE, LET IT BE IT ORDAINED BY THE GOVERNING BODY OF THE CITY OF SATANTA, KANSAS:

Section 1. PURPOSE. The purpose of this ordinance is to change the date of appointment for certain officials for the City of Satanta, Kansas in order to coincide with the terms of office of the City’s council and mayor adopted by charter ordinance 7.

Section 2. AMENDMENT ADOPTED: The previous charter ordinance 7 for the City of Satanta, Kansas is hereby amended, and additional language is added to the same under Section 3 after the paragraph outlining terms:

(a)   For the year of 2019, appointments shall be made/or the positions listed in section (b) below at the first regular meeting in May of 2019. Such appointment shall expire upon the subsequent appointment in February of 2020 as addressed in section (b) below.

(b)   Commencing in the year 2020, at the first regular meeting in February of each year, the mayor, by and with the consent of the council, shall appoint a city clerk and city treasurer, and may appoint a city attorney. municipal judge, chief of police, police officers, city engineer and such other officers as may be deemed necessary for the best interest of the city. All such appointments shall be entered on the journal of proceedings of the council.
