All installations, connections, extensions, alterations and repair of gas pipes and gas piping systems connecting houses or structures of any character with the distribution system of the city, except such as shall be done by licensed plumbers or by the gas distribution company, shall be done only by such persons as have taken out a gas fitter’s license. Such license shall be issued by the city clerk, upon application therefor by a gas fitter. The fee for an original license shall be Twenty-five Dollars ($25) for the first year and may be renewed upon payment of an annual renewal fee of Five Dollars ($5) if renewed each year thereafter. If an original license is not renewed each year, the gas fitter shall be required to secure a license in the same manner and pay the same fee as required for an original license before engaging in the business of gas piping in the city. The gas fitter securing a license shall furnish a bond in the same amount and subject to the same conditions as required of plumbers.

Any person, firm or corporation violating any of the provisions of this article shall, upon conviction thereof, be fined in any sum not exceeding One Hundred Dollars ($100) or be imprisoned not to exceed thirty (30) days, or be both so fined and imprisoned.
